Hi Gene and Charlott  Just dropped by to say hi. I,m still playing bass and singing in the church band even thought it gets a little hard for me at times. I guess the Lord will keep me pickin until he has something else for me to do. My wife Julia of 56 years is cancer free after three different times thanks to the Lord. I pray that you and yours are in the best of health. God Bless until the next time around. PS I play your CDs often.

The sun is up now, so Oklahoma City can begin to asssess the damage. Apparently not as many fatalities last night as last week, but a larger metropolitan area was involved.

My home in north Oklahoma City received 5 to 9 inches of rain during the storm, causing flooding up to the patio and the foundations, but no water inside, high winds blew rain down the dryer vent but we turned off the electrical breakers before it caused a fire, but no hail this time........

Our daughters home in west Oklahoma City lost power causing the the pool pump to stop working and unable to remove the storm water that overflowed ankle deep into her house, her roof just recently replaced, was totaled again by hail.......

One grand-daughter was working downtown Oklahoma City and was able to shelter in her office parking garage, power out at her home in west Oklahoma City has no apparent damage.......

Another grand-daughter has an acreage in the southeast Oklahoma City/Moore area but had an underground shelter where she, husband, and baby huddled while the tornado passed near their home, but their roof was already totaled by hail from the Moore tornado a few days ago.......

We were all lucky, no injuries and we still have our homes and insurance.

Keep praying for the casualities and those still digging through the rubble of their homes destroyed in the Moore tornado last week trying to find photos and other non-replaceable items.

I first met Big Murph when he was playing with the Earl Scruggs Review band. This was in Memphis. I did not know that he had passed away so could you tell me when and was it an illness?

Hi Jeff, thanks for the e-mail.

The initial opening night of the Diamond is still very much in my memory. Me and Howard Walker had been hired from the Merl Lindsay Ozark Jubilee Band after Merl had died from cancer. We had a rehearsal two days before the grand opening and left all our Instruments on the bandstand. The night before the opening burglars kicked open the bandstand door and cleaned out everything. Of mine, they took a brand new Fender steel guitar and a new Standel amplifier, leaving only my steel guitar pedal-board behind because I'm guessing they didn't know what it was.

The original Diamond band was Gene Jones....Willie Myers....Lloyd Rogers....Howard Walker....Benny Kubiak....Jim Horton....Brent Kent....Perry Jones. Of those, only me, Howard Walker and Benny Kubiak are still living. Benny is retired and living somewhere around Harrah, Oklahoma, and Howard Walker is working in a music show in Branson.

I was at the Diamond with Conway Twitty many years ago and there was a picture of the original band on your wall. If you have any other specific questions about the Diamond history please let me know. Thank you for your invitation, I would like to visit the Diamond again after all these years.

Gene,
My name is Jeff Brownen I have been managing the Diamond Ballroom for the past 5-1/2 years. Before we took over the Diamond from Ralph Russell jr. the company I worked for (DCF Concerts) was doing shows at the Diamond. We started doing shows at the Diamond in 1990 and we are doing a show here tonight.
I was looking at the photos on your website from back in the day. I would like to invite you to come out and see the Diamond sometime. Next year the Diamond turns 50 and we have been trying to find people and photos from the past to kind of fill in some of the gaps from the past.
Perry Jones and Ralph Russell sr. have passed on. Ralph jr is still alive but has not been here since shortly after we took over. The history of the Diamond is kind of hard to piece together and alot of the storys conflict, but this place dose have a rich history.
Anyway if you have anything to share and/or would like to see the Diamond let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff Brownen

thanks for taking the time. I found a site on face book. Morgan manor but the housing is Quonset huts that I believe were farther up the road from where we lived. The road up to our house was I believe the 1st or 2nd left turn from the highway. I think the school bus stop was in front of a 2-3 story building that had the office where we paid our rent. The house we were in was of the same construction as the one with, I guess your daughters.

Hi Pat,  I have pictures of Kadena Circle including Kadena AFB schools where our daughter attended Kindergarten and First Grade.  However they are not digital and I'll have to scan them from old photo albums.  I'll send them by attachment to e-mail when they are ready.

I lived at 652 Morgan Manor from 69-72 as a young boy. would love to see more pics of the area. So much has changed on the Rock since then. Would love to show my family some of the area that I grew up in. For some reason Mom & Dad didn't take any pics.

Thank you in advance for any help.
Pat
